What's your signature sign?
Your signature sign is the one that matches the balance of your whole chart, and it's often not your Sun sign. We'll show you the count behind it, and tell you honestly when there isn't a single answer, which is true of about 35 in 100 charts.
This is just one shape. Your whole chart shows you your birth chart drawn out, your Sun, Moon and rising sign, and the one shape in your chart that is most worth a closer look.

Would you like to look closer?
A reading is created from the whole of your chart, not just one shape. Your birth details are already here, so the form below takes you straight to a secure payment page.
It arrives in a private learning portal, with a chat function you can ask about it. If you are not sure what a reading looks like, you are welcome to read three chapters from a real one, which is my own.
What is a signature sign?
The points in a chart are counted by element and by mode. The element with the most points and the mode with the most points together name one sign, and that sign is the signature.
Your signature sign is the sign that matches the balance of your whole chart: the element and the mode most of your planets share. It's often not your Sun sign, and when it isn't, it can describe the way you actually go about things better than your Sun sign does.
It's a summary, not a placement: no planet has to be in it. And because the slow outer planets count too, part of it is shared with everyone born around the same time. Where your chart is evenly balanced there's no single signature, and the honest answer is two or more signs.
How common is each signature sign?
Measured across 100,000 random birth charts from 1930 to 2025, counting the ten planets and the rising sign and Midheaven:
| Signature sign | Charts |
|---|---|
| No single signature sign: a tie | 35 in 100 |
| Capricorn | 7 in 100 |
| Virgo | 6 in 100 |
| Taurus | 6 in 100 |
| Libra | 6 in 100 |
| Cancer | 6 in 100 |
| Gemini | 5 in 100 |
| Leo | 5 in 100 |
| Sagittarius | 5 in 100 |
| Aries | 5 in 100 |
| Aquarius | 5 in 100 |
| Pisces | 5 in 100 |
| Scorpio | 4 in 100 |
A tie means two elements or two modes are level at the top, so no one sign is the signature. Capricorn most likely leads because slow outer planets spent years in it, in the late 1980s and 1990s and again from 2008.
Questions
How is the signature sign worked out?
We count your ten planets, the Sun to Pluto, and your rising sign and Midheaven, one point each. Each point's sign has an element (fire, earth, air or water) and a mode (cardinal, fixed or mutable). The element and the mode with the most points together name one sign: earth and mutable is Virgo, fire and cardinal is Aries.
Why does it say I have no single signature sign?
It's because your points are evenly spread, with two elements or two modes level at the top. That's true of about 35 in 100 charts. Most calculators break the tie by counting some points twice, but that's a convention, not something in your chart, so we show you the candidate signs instead.
Why is Capricorn the most common?
Most likely because the slow outer planets count, and they spend years in one sign. Saturn, Uranus and Neptune were all in Capricorn in the late 1980s and 1990s, and Pluto from 2008, so many people born then lean that way. Your result says when a slow planet counts towards your signature, since that part is shared with your generation.
What if I don't know my birth time?
The calculator counts your ten planets without the rising sign and Midheaven. If your Moon changed sign that day and that changes the answer, it shows every possibility. Without the angles, a tie is a little more likely: about 40 in 100 charts.
